Where the river
meets the sea.
Emmonak is a Yup'ik community on the lower Yukon, in the heart of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. The corporation exists to serve it.
Emmonak — Imangaq in Yup'ik, after the blackfish that thrive in these waters — sits near the mouth of the Yukon River where it empties into the Bering Sea. It is one of the larger communities of the Yukon Delta, and it is overwhelmingly, proudly Yup'ik: 97% of our shareholders.
Life here moves with the seasons. In summer, families travel to fish camps to catch and dry salmon — the work that has sustained this people for countless generations. In winter, the river freezes into a highway of snow machines, and the long dark is held back by stored fuel and close community. Subsistence is not a hobby or a heritage program. It is how people live.
Emmonak Corporation was created so that this community could own a stake in its own future — land, enterprise, and the means to decide for itself. Every store shelf stocked, every tank filled, every job created, and every distribution paid is in service of that purpose.

The salmon still run. The families still gather. The corporation makes sure the means are there.

The drum, the dance, the people.
Yup'ik culture in Emmonak is not held behind glass — it is sung, danced, taught to children, and carried by elders. The drum keeps time for the corporation as surely as the balance sheet does.

The river, the fish, the people — long before there was a corporation.
Emmonak Corporation was created in 1973, but the inheritance it stewards is measured in generations. These photographs come from the families of our shareholders — the same waters, the same hands, the same work.

How the corporation gives back
Subsistence Support
We supply the fuel, firearms, and equipment that make a subsistence way of life possible — the salmon run, the hunt, the seasons.
Local Employment
Jobs at the store, tank farm, and corporate office keep wages and opportunity in the village, with hiring preference for shareholders.
Shareholder Distributions
When the businesses do well, the people who own them share in the result. That is the entire point of an ANC.
